Bonjol

Bonjol

We are not leaving Bukittinggi without paying a visit to our fourth equator crossing at Bonjol, north of Bukittinggi. To go there, we follow a part of the Trans Sumatra Highway, which runs over the full length of Sumatra and connects the cities of Banda Aceh in the north and Bandar Lampung in the south, a distance of more than 2500 km.

Bonjol was the home of the Paderi leader Imam Bonjol. The location of the equator crossing can not be missed. An equator marker has been erected, complete with parking facilities and souvenir shops. This is the place where many western tourist cross the equator for the first time, traveling from the Toba Lake to Bukittinggi.
