
The Minangkabau language is spoken by people in West Sumatra. There is approximately 6,500,000 people in the world who speak this language with different dialects. In general, the differences of dialect is based on the Minangkabau land that is separated into two areas. First, the coastal area, called pesisir or daerah rantau, such as Padang and Pesisir Selatan. Second, highland area which is divided into three areas called luhak, such as Luhak Agam; including Bukittinggi, Maninjau, Lubuk Basung, Luhak Tanah Data; including Batusangka, Padang Panjang, Singkarak, Kayutanam, and Luhak 50 Kota; including Payakumbuh. Furthermore in southern West Sumatra areas, there are different dialects namely Solok, Sulit Air and Sawahlunto Sijunjung. Even though the different areas have different dialects, nowadays most of them use Padang dialects. This dialect was called also Baso Padang. This dialects is used often by many people that come from different areas in West Sumatra. In this page, I have documented 30 Minangkabau words with sound, and their English translations.
